Herfoss hopes more of The Bend from both herself and the fiery Fireblade
Troy Herfoss
Troy Herfoss was aggressive during the Phillip Island round of the 2022 Mi-Bike Insurance Australian Superbike Championship held in conjunction with the World Superbike event over the weekend.
An electric gremlin ignited a fire under his butt earlier in the weekend when an electrical failure on the Penrite Honda resulted in flames coming from under the duck’s tail.
In Saturday’s wet conditions, he wasn’t confident enough to contest the podium, but he did contest the podium in the second and third Superbike races.
It must be said, though, that Herfoss failed to display race-winning speed over a track as he and the team tried to find better strategies to put power, and there’s clearly a lot to be done. more of that, get to the ground more efficiently and make cycling easier.
Although finishing fourth in the second race, Herf’s fastest lap was one second behind Wayne Maxwell’s best in that round, the gap between the fastest laps was still half a second behind. with Waters’ best in the final round.
Herfoss remains fourth in the Alpinestars Superbike Championship standings to advance to the finale at The Bend this weekend.
Trev: I’m here with Troy Herfoss, this weekend has no shortage of your aggression, in all races. I guess that just gets us talking about what happened to Wayne and to Glenn..
Troy Herfoss: “I was ahead of Wayne so I didn’t even know he was there until he hit me. And on his podium he said he was out of trouble, he was about to get out of trouble, but then the back turned and he almost had to maneuver what he was going to do, and then he went into my exhaust. But there was a move there…
“On the first lap, I was in the troupe, getting past the third and first time the bike was in limited mode at the weekend, because I had a three-bike draft. I don’t even intend to pass Glenn. I was just inside of him, and I was sucked in with so much speed and with nowhere else to go, I tried to slip away but failed. I had to abort the quest and unfortunately lost Glenn wide.
“In the end I still have the speed there, it’s just that I can’t get out of the corners, especially number 12, the potential is there. I can’t ride it, how I want to be ridden, the way I ride it makes it very difficult to turn around. We don’t have many references as I’m usually the only Honda person.
“I know I’ve been leading in pushing the pace, but for whatever reason, I don’t know how I did it. I feel like I have more speed. I have a fast bike, and I just need to energize the ground and bring the Fireblade back to the front, I hope.”
Trev: Your young teammates this weekend, you think that’s pretty impressive, right?
Herfoss: “From the moment he got on the truck, a very professional kid, if you didn’t look at him and talk on the phone with him, you wouldn’t know he was 17 years old. Very impressed, he has attracted a lot of attention around here, HRC people have come here to say hello. It’s great to see we have a proper young talent, not only a talented rider but a well-rounded and mature racer, and thinking about his race, it’s good..”
Herfoss hopes that some of the recently tested e-strategy will help him achieve the fiery essence of the latest Fireblade and help him progress further at The Bend this weekend.
