Havanese appearance

The Havanese has a small and sturdy frame – slightly longer than it is tall – covered with a long, silky coat. Its slightly rounded head has a short rectangular snout, a square nose, black lips, and high-set ears, mostly covered with fur. Its black eyes had a sweet yet curious expression. Its neck is slightly arched, sloping down to a deep chest, straight back, and a tail tucked back. Its long, light coat can come in almost any color. Overall, Havanese has a different but messy look.

In the 18th century, the Havanese was a major fixture in aristocratic homes throughout Cuba. After the 1959 Revolution, many wealthy Cubans came to the United States. Luckily, they brought their Havanese with them: This special group of 11 canines helped prevent the breed from becoming obsolete.
