Guillermo Rigondeaux suffered a serious eye injury after a pressure cooker explosion, the boxer said he only had 20% of his vision left

Guillermo Rigondeaux has always been praised for his defensive ability. The 41-year-old has used his superb skills to win two Olympic gold medals and multiple world titles in the professional divisions. However, according to his manager, Alex Bornote, Rigondeaux was hospitalized due to a “bizarre accident”.

According to Bornote, Rigondeaux was preparing a home-cooked meal at his home in Miami when suddenly, the pressure cooker Rigondeaux was using exploded instantly.

“When the pot exploded and we saw how Rigondoaux was left behind, we thought the worst,” Bornote told El Nuevo Herald. “Because his face and eyes look bad due to the effects of the explosion.”

As a result, Rigondeaux was hit by the explosion. Now, also according to his manager, the title list of many departments has only 20% of his vision. Since the unfortunate accident, Rigondeaux has undergone several tests and Bornote hopes that he will be able to make a full recovery.

With consecutive gold medals from the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games, Rigondeaux beat his rivals for most of the early part of his career. Famously, Rigondeaux awarded Hall of Famer weightlifting and future star Nonito Donaire, just the second failure of his professional career in 2013 as a significant underdog team.

Yet even with the biggest win of his career, Rigondeaux struggled to find competition. In an attempt to prove his worth, the Cuban-born player challenged Vasiliy Lomachenko to two weight divisions north of his usual weight division. Rigondeaux continued to suffer the first defeat of his career in the sixth minute of injury time.

Recently, Rigondeaux has been trying to launch his career but has had to receive consecutive defeats at the hands of John Riel Casimero in 2021 and most recently to Vincent Astrolabio.
