After seeing the movie, I really wanted to talk to the film’s costume designer, Janty Yates, who had been professionally dreaming of looks that spanned three decades, the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s—not an easy feat.
In my interview with Yates, she revealed the outfit appeared briefly in the trailer but was never actually made into the movie. The look is a blue sequined two-piece dress Lady Gaga Dressed in one of the promotional images, and Yates detailed how Lady Gaga herself asserted that the look was “outrageous”.
“[This scene] It’s actually going to be just a black sequin dress,” Yates told Who What Wear. Lady Gaga said: ‘Get me the weirdest and most horrible string fabric you can find.’ My buyer came in with this amazing bright turquoise. It is very noisy. [Lady Gaga’s character] six months pregnant here. So sad, [the scene] only in the trailer, not in the actual movie.
