Grand Theft Auto games are filled with jokes – or, as I like to call them, “jokes”. I am referring to the habit of replacing words in signs and company names with rude or double pronunciation.
These jokes have been restored by GTA: The Trilogy – Final EditionIts latest patch, corrects typos on the sign, puts hard corners back on the Tuff Nut logo and prevents it from raining indoors quite often.
Some of the GTA’s jokes have been broken by the Definitive Edition, which seems to upgrade the textures and OCR text with inconsistent results. A music store’s “Air Guitars” advertisement became “AR Guitars”, and their “Guitarwank Booth” became “Guitarhenk Booth”. Meanwhile, Shaft Hot Dogs’ tagline mistook the low-res M for an H and became “Taste of a Real Man’s Hot”.
The worst of these is definitely the Tuff Nuts donut shop in San Andreas, the sign of which features a hexagonal nut alongside an intentionally (inevitable) polygonal donut. The Definitive version smoothed both, even the grain.
A new patch, released today, fixes all of the above and dozens of other patches. NS full patch notes also includes fixes for heavy rain: places where it appears indoors, places where it appears incorrectly in the cutscene, places where it appears underwater.
Other notable changes include the re-introduction of the cinematic camera, UI fixes, closing some of the holes in the world that players might make, etc.
If it wasn’t clear, the final version of Grand Theft Auto Trilogy launched as a mess and was even removed from sale. for accidentally including some files. Modifiers have been fixing things so far, but Rockstar has apologized and promise to fix the game. They have also made the original available again, but only through the Rockstar Launcher.
In other words, it’s less of a Definitive Edition, and more like… Duffinitive Edition. Here we begin, a “joke” that Rockstar will appreciate.
