The Great Barrier Reef is one of the natural jewels of the planet, stretching more than 2,300 kilometers along the northeast of Australia.

But as well as being a bucket-list favorite and a swath of biodiversity across 3,000 individual reefs, the world heritage-listed creature is on the cusp of a climate crisis.

This week, however, a report on the number of corals on the reef shows the highest level in 36 years of follow-up in the north and central regions.

But that doesn’t mean the crisis is over.

I don’t have a problem with scientists getting a little bit of funding, but now we have a lot of evidence that the reef is doing well, that claims of the scientific climate crisis is pointless, maybe it’s time to reallocate some of those generous reef science grants to pay to fix our failing hospitals and schools.
