Government-supported virtual care project in Adelaide



A new health project in Adelaide seeks to make primary care virtually available to patients with chronic conditions.

Led by Flinders University, the safe@home project has received nearly US$1.1 million (approximately US$700,000) in funding from the National Health and Medical Research Council.

HOW IT WORKS

The project will provide patients with chronic diseases, especially those living in low-income communities, with access to integrated daily/regular primary care services through virtual care. and remote monitoring.

WHY IT IMPORTANT

It will use health information obtained from regular monitoring to drive clinical decisions and actions to improve patient health and outcomes.

In addition, the project will shape a new digital health workforce by training doctors, nurses and related health professionals in both hospitals and primary care settings.

It will also look at developing a business model for other regions to use regular Medicare item numbers for primary care and a framework to scale up to routine care, including includes fine-tuning the interface with the EMR and clinic.
