Golden Retriever is hailed as a hero after keeping his two sisters safe while lost in the forest
Golden Retrievers have a reputation as the family’s incredible breed. Their endless energy helps them keep up with the kids and their gentle demeanor makes them perfect for living with children of all ages. But a guard dog named Artemis went far beyond the task after he and his two human sisters got lost in the woods behind their Louisiana home.
Not only did he keep them safe, but rescuers say it was thanks to him that they were found.
In a small town north of Lake Pontchartrain and New Orleans, seven-year-old Abigail and four-year-old sister Cecelia follow their furry best friend into the woods behind their home. Their Golden Retriever, Artemis, dashed for the trees in a frenzy, and with an enthusiasm only children have, the sisters chased after their precious puppy.
Only Artemis began to stray away from home, and the three of them got lost in the woods. As you can imagine, everyone, including their mothers, is worried about their health.
The children’s mother, Mary, said: “It’s a feeling no parent wants to go through, it’s just a roller coaster of emotions.
Fortunately, they did not get lost for a long time. In fact, their entire community has rallied to help find them. Local law enforcement, along with 100 volunteers, set out and searched the entire area for the trio who had turned their backs. Even ATVs and helicopters are used to search the surrounding forest!
Mary said: “Everybody in this community left what they were doing and on the spot – it didn’t matter, they were there for us.
Everyone wants to find them as quickly as possible. In the end, it was Artemis, and his loud barking, that told the search party exactly where he and his sisters were waiting. Their guard dog not only bonds with his sisters in the unexpected adventure but is also the one that ultimately leads to their rescue.
Abigail, seven, said: “He also tried to bark at the helicopter.
Volunteers shared that Artemis’ barking not only led them to him and the girls, but when rescuers arrived, he continued to circle around them and protect them until he knew that They have no intention of harming.
Golden Retrievers are great family dogs, but Artemis took it as a whole. New level of love. As a token of their incredible appreciation, Artemis was rewarded with a special steak dinner when he got home. After all, he earned it to keep his family safe when the outcome could have been exactly the opposite.
