God of War Ragnarok’s Animated Family Portrait Highlights 5 Key Relationships – PlayStation.Blog

Since the Family Portrait series started 5 weeks ago, we have had the pleasure of showcasing the work created by an amazing team of artists. These portraits show the relationships that are fundamental to the God of War Ragnarök.

Now that the series is over, we’ve assembled a gallery featuring all five of the above works God of War Ragnarok . website and size them for your desktop wallpaper so you can bring the gallery to your home page (desktop). You can download them together here or get them individually below.

But that’s not all!

We wouldn’t have ended the series without adding a little extra special. Not only did we animate each piece, but we also borrowed Mimir to provide some of his insight into our portrait subject!

Drew Merritt – Bear and Wolf

Drew Merritt’s portrait of Kratos and Atreus, bear and wolf, chronicles the familial ties of our heroes. The father and son together endured many trials in their quest to scatter the ashes of Faye (the wife of Kratos and mother of Atreus) on the highest peak of all kingdoms. After the events of God of War (2018), Kratos and Atreus became the close family unit that Faye always looked forward to.

But Atreus was no longer a child of the God of War Ragnarök. Trained endlessly under the supervision and protection of his father, he has become a skilled fighter with the agility and intelligence of wolves. Atreus knew some questions with answers that could only be obtained outside of their frozen home in Midgard.

The snows of Fimbulwinter herald the arrival of Ragnarök and signal a growing danger to all inhabitants of the Nine Realms. Now more than ever, Kratos must prepare Atreus to fight and survive as he was taught. Protective and watchful like a bear protecting its young, Kratos will do anything to keep his family safe.

Emma Rios – The Dwarf

Emma Ríos’ Portrait of the Dwarf gives you a glimpse of some new faces alongside the familiar Huldra brothers, Brok and Sindri.

Although they have had differences in the past, Brok and Sindri not only mended their business relationship but also their brotherhood. Both master blacksmiths, they provided Kratos and Atreus with much-needed equipment improvements countless times during their journey. While not without their quirks, Brok and Sindri’s steadfast support has earned them trust and, dare we say, Kratos and his son’s friendship.

Emma’s work also provides a glimpse into Svartalfheim – home of the Dwarves. Known for their superb technique and craftsmanship, the inhabitants of this kingdom are equally proud and skilled.

The dwarves have built massive structures of watermills, mines, and forges – masterfully exploiting their surroundings to craft the finest tools, weapons, and armor across the Nine Realms.

In the past, we’ve shown Durlin and his squiggly little companion Dínner – but we’ll wait a while to introduce you to our mysterious new lady friend and her she’s so cute, very wrinkled dog.

Romina Tempest – Hero of Midgard

Ragnarök’s arrival may have prophesied an apocalypse, but that doesn’t mean our heroes can’t enjoy quiet moments in the midst of battle.

Romina Tempest’s work depicts an unusually ordinary setting, that of a dinner between friends and family. When danger lurks around every corner, it is moments of laughter and comfort like these that become most precious and extraordinary.

The relationship between father and son is at the heart of our story, but Kratos and Atreus are no longer fighting just to keep each other safe. As the old saying goes, sometimes a family is a Green, a Dwarf, a Head, a Son, and one (or two) Gods of War!

Jae Lee – Mother and son

Jae Lee’s portrait depicts the goddess Freya holding the body of her lost child, Baldur. The events of God of War (2018) saw Freya not only an ally of Kratos and Atreus, but ultimately a friend. Thanks to her guidance and mastery of the powerful Vanir magic, it was only with her help that the father and son were able to complete their mission.

The game’s ending ultimately presents Kratos with a choice: kill Baldur and end the cycle of killing his parents or honor Freya’s wishes and allow Baldur to take the life of the woman who saved his son. Although Kratos is used to the pain of losing a child, he cannot stand aside when Baldur tries to kill his mother.

While father and son saved Freya’s life, they did so at the cost of her friendship. Vowing revenge on Kratos in her grief, the goddess swore that her son’s death would be paid with blood.

Despite being stripped of her wings and title – Queen of the Valkyrie – by her ex-husband Odin, Freya’s anguish and anger made her a force to be reckoned with.

Sui Ishida – Aesir

From the kingdom of Asgard, Odin and his family rule the Nine Realms. Despite hoarding all his knowledge and power, the death of his son Baldur and the arrival of Fimbulwinter marked the All-Father’s failure to prevent the beginning of a prophecy. tri that he had long sought to break. Such a failure he did not want to suffer a second time.

Sui Ishida’s portrait depicts Odin in the background, surrounded and protected by his family’s warriors standing between him and anyone who challenges their cause.

While there are some faces we haven’t met yet, there are some Aesirs that Kratos and Atreus fought when they reached Jötunheim. The father-son duo eventually killed Baldur as well as Thor’s sons Magni and Modi. These actions not only drain the blood of the most powerful family in the Nine Realms, but also remove important pieces from the chessboard that are considered extensions of the All-Father’s will.

Despite those losses, Odin’s most powerful part remains in effect: Asgard’s mightiest warrior, Thor. With the legendary weapon Mjölnir in hand, the Thunder God’s notoriety can only be matched by the ferocious power he wields against anyone who opposes his family.

As Ragnarök fades on the horizon, the Aesir prepares for war, and the lives of Kratos and Atreus lost years ago may still pay a greater price.
