As hosts of the Photomode Unplugged podcast and major contributors to the God of War photography community, we asked TheFourthFocus and DotPone to give us their top tips for those of you who are looking. God of War Ragnarok photography.

Virtual photography is a great way for players to get more engaged with the game they love, and with the recent photo mode update, God of War Ragnarök has joined the photography party.

By activating a set of in-game tools that mimic real-world camera usage, photo mode can be used to capture original and creative photos of Kratos and Atreus’ journey across the globe. Nine Realms.

Found through the Options menu, the photo mode freezes the game and allows the player to move around the scene using the virtual camera. As with any type of photography, mastering composition and framing is key to getting a compelling shot, so use the camera using the analog sticks. to find a suitable shooting angle. Pay close attention to the direction of the light and make sure to emphasize the chosen subject while avoiding distractions that cause the eye to look away – do these things right and much of the hard work is done. finish.

Go to settings

Fourth focus

To me, the most important settings in photo mode are those that affect the actual composition of the photo and change the way the camera captures the scene. Start by adjusting the width of the viewport in the frame, by setting the Field of View angle directly, or by changing the Focal Length to “zoom in” in or out.

Note that a long Focal Length creates a narrow Field of View angle and vice versa, and each focal length can greatly affect the style of a photo.

As a general rule, Longer Focal Lengths are great for close-ups or removing clutter from the frame, while Shorter Focal Lengths create a wide angle that adds perspective distortion and can make Make photos look more vivid.

If you are interested in portrait photography, the 50 – 85mm is really a hot spot.

Fourth focus

Of course, there’s no point in setting up a well-framed photo if the subject is completely blurred, so switch to the Focus Distance setting to place the focus point on the subject so they look good and high solution.

A top tip here is to target the eyes as they create the strongest connection with the viewer.

Alongside this setting, you’ll also find an f-stop value that can be used to control depth of field – basically, how sharp the scene appears. Increasing the f-stop value will help focus more of the foreground and background, while decreasing it will create a shallow depth of field that can be used to separate the subject from the background and create effects. blurred bokeh.

Portrait

Portraiture is popular for a reason. They represent the character we love (or hate) in the game. If, like me, you’re a fan of black background portraits with good lighting for your characters, then you can’t miss The Crucible’s main arena in Muspelheim.

However, today I will tell you about another technique: framing.

You’ll want to take more than an actual representation of the character in your portrait so they stand out. You’ll want your portrait to express emotions to the viewer; therefore, the character must also show the aforementioned emotion.

In terms of photography, composition ultimately makes or breaks your photo. A great way to bring you closer to a good composition is to use an element in your foreground to frame something in the background. God of War Ragnarök gives you the perfect tool for this with Blades of Chaos and its fire dance.

Using the animation where Kratos throws the Blade, I used its chain to frame his face and make sure the subject made eye contact with the camera.

This choice makes them appear to be looking directly at the viewer when expressing their feelings.

Then, using one of the many facial expressions available in photo mode and the options in the Shutter section to blur everything but Kratos, I made sure he was the first thing viewers noticed. when looking at my photos.

action scenes

Fourth focus

Getting good action shots can be a challenge and it’s all about capturing a dynamic look that allows the image to tell the story of what’s going on. With a limited camera range, you’ll usually have to get pretty close to whatever enemy you want to photograph, but sometimes it’s worth making a shot to get the shot.

The wider field of view can help bring the action into the frame, and the small camera roll is a really useful way to create a sense of movement or even disorientation that works well in combat.

Fourth focus

As always, you should also think about eyeliner and try to find an angle that makes the character and the enemy look like they are in each other’s field of vision. This is a great way to make action and fight scenes more engaging and believable.

Landscape photography

The background of God of War Ragnarok is the perfect theme for the photo mode!

You get loads of variety by visiting all the Nine Realms in this game, from the flaming lava arena in Muspelheim to the lush jungle of paradise in Vanaheim.

However, these levels have been brought to life by talented Santa Monica developers, and simply pointing the camera and snapping a photo isn’t enough to make them your own. If you want your photos to stand out, you may want to find a different angle or find a way to capture things that are less obvious.

Landscape photography is one of the most complex in my opinion because instead of having a single element, you want to draw the viewer’s attention to the entire place.

I chose to capture a simple scene that we took for granted while playing the game – a boat parked on the shore of a lake in Svartalfheim. I took a low angle shot of one of the less obvious objects in the lake and blurred the vegetation in the foreground to give the image a sense of depth.

Locations and Filters

Fourth focus

There are a lot of beautiful places in God of War Ragnarök that make for great subjects on their own, but they can also be useful to give your photos a different feel in general.

For example, many locations with distinct color palettes and different light sensibilities can completely transform a portrait. Whether it’s the rich, warm tones of Ironwood or the cool blues of Niflheim, try visiting different realms for more varied results.

The same goes for the color filters found in photo mode, and they’re an obvious way to adjust the overall tone of an image in any position.

However, don’t just rely on the defaults, lower the intensity for a more subtle effect, and change the Vibrance & Saturation settings to control how vivid the colors are. Tweaks like these can be what makes all the difference to your photos.
