The God of War Ragnarok New Game Plus (NG+) update is now available. To make sure you’re ready to head back to the Nine Realms, we’ve put together everything you need to know below.
Change the way you play
New gear, increased level cap, new Enchantment – all of this and more introduced with God of War Ragnarok’s NG+ mode. As soon as you beat the game, you’ll be able to jump right into the NG+ save to re-experience the story with more gameplay options available from the start.
Your gear, weapons (including the Draupnir Spear) and skills will be carried over from your previous save, so you’ll be able to use your entire arsenal at the start of your journey .
Please note that you will not start the game with access to the Sonic and Hex arrows. All areas that require those arrows or the Draupnir Spear to access will not unlock until you reach the point in the main quest line where they are available through the story.
New equipment
Black bear’s armor
Rest assured, we’ve been seeing requests for Kratos’ more cloaks from the opening scene since the release of God of War Ragnarök.
The Black Bear’s armor will help Kratos withstand the Fimbul winter frosts even after the sleigh chase. Its stats focus on Strength and Defense with a skill that rewards the last seconds you evade with a bunch of Bifröst shards.
Your NG+ run will start with Black Bear’s Armor equipped.
Spartan armor
If you want to seriously test your skills and take on the toughest challenge in God of War Ragnarök, Spartan Armor is for you. No Privileges, No Stats and Locked to Power Level 1 – Spartan Armor lets you… better, Spartans protective approach.
This set is perfect for those of you who want to keep your power to a minimum and leave no room for error. If you are brave enough to face the arrival of the pecs-first Ragnarök, then give this set a try!
If you like the look of Spartan Generals more and less like the challenging gameplay, you can always switch from one armor to another to achieve the look without sacrificing protection.
Spartan armor can be purchased with Hacksilver at the Huldra Brothers’ Shop.
Ares armor
Returning favorites from God of War 2018 New Game are Ares and Zeus armor with new visuals and Perks.
Ares armor rewards the lucky one with a chance to drop a Health Stone upon hit. When you stomp the Health Stone, you also gain rage along with a bigger explosion.
Ares Armor can be purchased for Hacksilver at the Huldra Brothers’ Shop.
Zeus Armor
Zeus armor will allow for ultimate risk-reward gameplay. This set greatly increases your Melee and Runic damage, and also increases the damage taken.
A single hit can be enough to take out Kratos when equipped with the Zeus Armor, so you’ll need to keep an eye on your enemies’ positions while preparing to deal with the raw power retribution that the kit has to offer. This armor provides.
You can get the Zeus Armor by defeating the Valkyrie Queen Gná and completing certain Remnants of Asgard while saving NG+.
Spartan Aspis – New Shield
Spartan Aspis returns in God of War Ragnarök and boldly embodies Kratos’ legacy.
Spartan Aspis is similar to the Trustworthy Shield, but it has a significantly tighter Thrust window. Although more time-consuming, successful Parries offer more harmful rewards.
Spartan Aspis can be purchased at the Huldra Brothers’ Shop using Hacksilver.
Appearing armor
For those looking to keep things fresh, we’ve also remixed our 13 existing armor sets with new color combinations and colors that weren’t available before.
These spawns can be purchased at the Huldra Brothers’ Shop and applied to any of your existing Level 9+ armor in the transformation menu. You can get the new Berserker Armor look after defeating Berserker King on NG+.
New level cap
In NG+, both Kratos and your enemies will become stronger with an increased level cap. You will be able to convert all of your Level 9 gear (armor, weapons, weapon parts and shields) into new ‘Plus’ versions that will provide additional levels of progression.
Switching your gear will also yield a Gold Plated Coin that can be used to purchase one of the new Enchantments from the shop.
We’ve also added a quality-of-life adjustment to the store, so you’ll be able to buy and sell resources gradually. Buy and sell materials to get your gear in top shape to run your NG+ now smoother than Kratos’ scalp.

Gold Plated Coins – Enchantments Engraving and Badge
If you’ve ever wondered about armor selection because you couldn’t choose your favorite Perks, then the new Enchantment available in the store is for you! They feature a powerful and versatile selection of perks from the Armor (Etogram) and Shield Rönd (Badge), allowing you to equip them in your Amulet as Charms.
For example, you can buy Dragon Carving, which has Dragon Scale Chest Plate Perk, Dragon’s Rage (Blocks and Blocks give a stack of Strength/Defense). You can equip it in your Amulet while wearing another chest piece like the new Cuirass of Ares, which allows you to combine two different chest armor perks at once.
The most powerful enchantments from Gold Plated Coins will require certain Stat thresholds to be met to incentivize and reward you for being smart with your builds. With so many new options available, we can’t wait to see what combinations you make.
Berserker Soul Drops – Stat Booster Charm
Defeating Berserker Souls on NG+ will also reward you with new Enchantments to equip. While not as flashy as some of the Perk Enchantments, these Perks will give you a massive boost to your chosen stats so you can lean on whatever build you like best even more.

Burden is a new set of Enchantments that allow you to equip negative Perks for a tailored challenge.
For example, Burden of Evasion will automatically give Kratos a Frost status effect when he rolls.
For those who want to increase the difficulty with an extremely brutal experience, you can combine the Burden with Spartan Armor.
We’ve also added a new UI option called Show Difficulty (HUD Difficulty Visualization), which will show the current difficulty setting on the HUD, as well as the number of Burs you’ve equipped . Be a little flexible for your friends.

New career path
New skill Mod Plus
Upgrade your existing Mod Skill tokens using XP to further enhance the effects of your favorite Mods.
Platinum Labor
Make any progress from your Kill Labors or Ratatas and keep unlocking new Platinum Tier rewards.
Additional stats increase
Nornir Chests will now provide Yggdrasil Dew to allow players to push Stats far beyond their previous limits.
Expanded Niflheim Arena
The Sparring Arena in Niflheim in NG+ will give you a lot of new options to play! Along with a host of new enemies for you to take on, you’ll now be able to play as Kratos or Atreus and choose any of the following companion characters to fight alongside you: Atreus (with Kratos), Freya, Brok. , Sindri, Angrboda, Ingrid, Thor and Thrúd.
With any possible companion combination, we can’t wait to see how creative you can get in game and in Photo Mode.
Final boss
Feeling comfortable fighting Berserker Souls and Valkyrie Queen Gná? We’ve made sure that the toughest optional fights have some transitions in NG+, so even if you’ve beaten them before, they’ll still throw a punch when you meet them again.
Adjust other enemies
Available on every difficulty in NG+
Hateful and Ormstunga, two of our optional mini-bosses, have been given some new tricks. Be sure to visit them when you can during your NG+ run.
Available on Give Me No Mercy and Give Me God of War in NG+
If you choose to play on Give Me No Mercy or Give Me God of War difficulty, all bosses and mini-bosses will have Runic Armor. The strategic use of Runic in these battles can make the difference between victory and defeat.
In NG+, enemies becoming elite can now also occur on Give Me No Mercy in addition to Give Me God of War. Elite enemies will get a Power Level boost, so make sure you keep an eye on them when you see a shapeshifter in combat.
Black and white rendering mode
Looking to re-experience the story with a more cinematic twist? After you beat the game once, you’ll gain access to the new Black and White Rendering Mode for every next standard NG+ or New Game save.
The new mode can be found in the Graphics & Camera settings menu.
Skip the cinema
Choose your own pace for story playback with the option to skip clips in NG+.
