GM partners with Tesla to access Supercharger, adopt NACS

Following in Ford’s footsteps, GM just announced that its owner tram will have access to Tesla Supercharger charging infrastructure begins early 2024. In terms of volume, GM said it has added 12,000 Tesla Superchargers to its list of available charging points for its customers.

Additionally, GM said it will adopt Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector design for its electric vehicles starting in 2025. GM hasn’t announced specific models that will avoid the Charging System port combined (CCS) for NACS, but expect new GM EVs from 2025 onwards to use NACS.

GM says that when its electric vehicle owners initially gain access to the Tesla Supercharger network in 2024, they will need an adapter. When it comes to GM EVs from 2025 onward that do away with the CCS connector in favor of a NACS port, those vehicles will then require an adapter to charge on CCS-capable fast-charging stations. GM says it will make all of these adapters available to its customers when the time comes.

In addition to the hardware news, GM said it will integrate the Tesla Supercharger network into its vehicles and mobile apps to make locating, paying, and initiating charging a seamless process across the board. Tesla Superchargers.
