GM electric trucks, synthetic gasoline pollution, cars worth buying on the floor: Car News Today

GM has begun establishing a franchise network for its electric trucks. Synthetic gasoline may not be cheaper or cleaner. And why didn’t some of this year’s EVs and PHEVs make the Best Cars to Buy shortlist? This and more, at Green Car Reports.

Earlier this week, we announced shortlist of five vehicles, one of which will be Green Car Reports’ Best Car to Buy in 2022. And today, we reviewed why some of the vehicles that resonate are not on the list.

GM opened the first agent for the brand BrightDrop, focusing on electric trucks for delivery fleets. It follows a franchise model and a factory in Canada will build both the EV600 and the shorter wheelbase EV410.

And some automakers have looked to synthetic fuels as a way to keep the internal combustion engine alive in the future in a limited number of models, like sports cars. But Synthetic gasoline emits as much pollution as regular gasoline, according to a report from the Transport & Environment group, citing the tests it has carried out. It builds on the group’s earlier caution that synthetic fuel vehicles will have a higher cost of ownership than electric vehicles.
