GM dealers have been quietly repairing Teslas for over a year
Tesla owners in need of repairs may have something to grudgingly rejoice over. Speaking at GM Investment Day 2022, GM President Mark Reuss may have surprised some by revealing that a handful of GM dealers have repaired thousands of Teslas over a year. As of 2021, GM dealers nationwide have repaired a total of 11,180 Teslas.
The business sees GM dealers providing repairs and service to Tesla owners. Reuss says that GM dealers have the technical know-how and customer service after years of Volts repair and some of GM’s newer EV service. “It’s a new business, it’s great,” Reuss said, chuckling a little as he announced the news.
This is a big deal for GM customers as well as Tesla. Not only does it give GM a chance to look inside the rival carmaker’s product timelines and learn from them, it also gives Tesla customers easier access to the service that they offer. sometimes hard to find. As Reuss pointed out in the presentation, more than 90 percent of Americans live within a 10-mile radius of a GM dealership. Because of this, Tesla can be hacked. Reuss says Tesla is now investing millions to build more Tesla repair facilities near GM dealers, likely in one move to try to keep his customers go to Tesla facilities.
It’s also a win for Tesla customers because of how bad Tesla’s own service can be. For years, it has been known that Tesla owners have encountered countless problems when trying to repair or service their vehicles, often months of waiting for parts or charged exorbitant fees for work. Going to a long-standing dealer network with the know-how to properly repair vehicles will make Tesla owners very happy.
