1st grade winner and triple ranked bet winner Gift box The first foal arrived on January 19 in St. Simon Place in Lexington. The foal, bred by St. Simon Place and Machmer Hall, didn’t win Sightstown Chelsea mare street.
Chelsea Road was sold to St. Simon Place and Machmer Hall at Keeneland November Sale of breeding stock last year for $65,000 while still in foal form. Signed by Buckland Sales, Chelsea Road is the dam of dirtyly placed stakes To go Big green country (Animal Kingdom ) and two other winners from three children to race. She comes from the Chosen Horse of the Year family and a Street Story graded multi-stake winner.
Tommy Wente in St. Simon Place said of the pony, “He’s a big attractive pony. I’m very pleased. (He) has great legs and a very good physique as well as a very good eye.”
Carrie Brogden of Machmer Hall added: “He looks exactly like his father did as a kid.
Gift Box, who was bred by Machmer Mall and Carrie and Craig Brogden, became the highest earning son of Spinning candy with a total bank account of $1,127,060. A bet graded 2-year-old, the Gift Box was originally trained by Chad Brown for WS Farish before being sent west to John Sadler at the age of 5 and owner of Hronis Racing. Gray then caught the Santa Anita Handicap presented by the San Miguel Indian Bingo and Casino (G1) and the two versions of the San Antonio Stakes (G2).
The Gift Box stands at Lane’s End Farm in Lexington for $10,000.
