Hector Luis Garcia 16-0 entered the ring at Washington DC’s Capital One Arena on Saturday night hoping to shock the world. For Garcia, it was just a moment away from entering a scheduled twelfth round match against 27-0 multi-division title lead Gervonta “Tank” Davis. Davis famously had another Garcia lined up to fight in late 2023 – the famous and tough Ryan Garcia. First, though, Davis has to get past the man in front of him, and Hector Luis Garcia is a junior lightweight world champion athlete who’s known for breaking apple carts. Their match is the main event of the Showtime pay-per-view card.
The first is low octane, feeling adulterous that no man can do anything particularly remarkable. Garcia had some good moments in the second half as the pace picked up a bit. Davis had more effective shots in the third inning, but Davis remained patient, as was his habit. Davis knocked out Garcia in the fourth round before really coming to life, tagging his man several more times. The fifth round was almost over, but Davis was able to combine his punches into the final seconds. Garcia suffocated his man in the sixth inning. On the other hand, Davis shot and landed well.
Both men kept their form in the seventh inning, as they did throughout the fight. However, Davis could have gotten through it with a punch that had to be a little firmer and sharper. Both men landed very well in the eighth inning when play was abruptly halted due to an incident in the stands. The action continues about a minute or so later. Davis began to viciously hurl punches at each other. When the round was less than 20 seconds, Garcia was kicked hard by Davis. Clearly hurt, he was able to make it to the bell.
However, between rounds, Garcia said he couldn’t see his corner. The game was stopped at the start of the ninth half at Garcia’s request for a corner.
