Now that the long-awaited hope of an Errol Spence-Terence Crawford bout is over, auction day as the biggest boxing match is the Gervonta Davis-Ryan Garcia bout coming this spring. While Davis was having a tune-up for several weeks against Hector Luis Garcia, (Ryan) Garcia opted out of the tune-up before knocking out Spence. Talk to fightHubhowever, Davis has made it clear that he has doubts about the boxer known as “King Ry.” When asked why he felt Garcia had crossed a tune, Davis answered very clearly.
“I think it might be his push,” he said, “that’s why I pushed for VADA.” Voluntary anti-doping associations can test boxers year-round, making it harder for them to use performance-enhancing drugs. “He looked bigger than he really was all these years,” Davis said of Garcia, “or maybe because he drank too. I know he drank a lot. Definitely that one or the juice. Referring to a race with Garcia in California, Davis said of the famous boxer: “He was drunk. Slapping drunk.
Davis went on to be a little more generous towards Garcia – before taking a figurative break. “I understand both sides,” he said. “If he doesn’t want to adjust then I understand that.” It’s a diplomatic way to put things. However, Davis later made it clear that he was not convinced by the statement he had just made. “Actually,” Davis added, “he’s very lazy.” Then the 27-0 multi-division list is mentioned earlier in Garcia’s career. “When he arrived, he was in the gym, he was fit,” Davis said. “He came out of the gym. He’s partying.”
Davis also addressed the issue of boxers such as Garcia, Tyson Fury and Adrien Broner openly having problems related to mental health. “Back in the day, you never heard boxers talk about mental health,” he stated. “I feel like people are saying it to get away with everything. Honestly, we all have (problems) mental health.”
Davis had good things to say about his and Garcia’s team settling a fight together. “It shows that wars can be solved and I’m not hiding from anyone,” he said. “My side and his side have solved it together.” Davis stated he hopes the match against Garcia will lead to more high-level fights between the boxers in the future. “There’s been a lot of talk,” he said, regarding the big competitions. “Now is the time to act.”
