Boxing’s first big fight of 2023 will be tomorrow night in Washington DC when Gervonta “Tank” Davis takes on Hector Luis Garcia in a scheduled 12-round lightweight bout. At the very least, the pad underneath has some interesting names attached. Former WBO middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade will make his supermiddle debut when the 31-0 Rhode Islander takes on Desmond Nicholson 26-4-1 in the scheduled 10th round. The skillful Andrade has a reputation for being one of those who stay away from fighting games. If he proves successful at the super-middle class, he’ll be hard pressed to avoid the department’s big names.

Welterweight Rashidi Ellis will also look to impress on Saturday. The 24-0 Massachusetts native will battle Roiman Villa 25-1 in 12 scheduled games. Having fought only three times since 2018, 29-year-old Ellis may want an active year of her own. With that in mind, another rising weight class is coming this weekend. There are those who would argue that Jaron “Boots” Ennis 29-0 is already the best boxer in the tournament. He will put out his spotless resume tomorrow night when he takes on Karen Chukhadzhian 21-1 in a scheduled 12-round bout for the interim IBF world title.
