He and Ryan Garcia are set to go head-to-head in what is sure to be a blockbuster in 2023. However, before Gervonta “Tank” Davis takes on the boxer dubbed “King Ry,” he’ll be there. featured a Pay Per View for the little guy that met Hector Luis Garcia on January 7 at Washington DC’s Capital One Arena. For Baltimore native Davis, it was like fighting in front of a hometown audience. However, the truth is that Davis’ DC-based fights are selling well, and the audience delivers on the intensity. In other words, it makes sense for this match to fail at Capital One Arena.
Although not widely known, Garcia 16-0 won the WBA world featherweight title from Roger Gutierrez when they fought last August. Now, the 31-year-old boxer is going up to the weight division to take on none other than one of the most famous boxers in the world. Of course, he wasn’t expected to actually win Davis’ WBA lightweight belt. With a big fight with Garcia coming up, Davis won’t be thrown into the ring with a top opponent who poses too much of a risk. However, Garcia is a legitimate world champion who has not tasted defeat. In short, this is not a simple adjustment.
However, Davis has quite a pedigree, as well as a fighting style. He has 27 wins and 0 losses. Furthermore, 25 of those wins were by knockout. Among Davis’ victims were Leo Santa Cruz, Mario Barrios, Isaac Cruz and the previously undefeated Rolando Romero. However, Davis, 28, says he doesn’t look down on Garcia. “I fight January 7th in DC,” he posted on social media on Friday, “Although…we can’t ignore this guy..Ryan game just happened.. IT IS SMOKE FOR ALL (sic).”
