Secret Reserve Eyes Rating Stakes Glory at Kennedy Street


secret reserve will chase his second-ranked bet crown when he goes ahead on Nov. 20. $175,000 Canadian Kennedy Road Stakes (G2) at Honeysuckle.

Coached by Mike Mattine for Camp Carlo D’Amato and Stacey Van, Secret Reserve will face 10 competitors in a six-stage mainline race for kids ages 3 and up.

The Ontario hybrid entered Kennedy Road 5-1-2 after 11 starts. This season, the 4-year-old son of Giant Gizmo is 1-0-2 from four starts.

In his most recent attempt, at Vigil Stakes (G3) September 25, Secret Reserve experienced a rough ride, where he was blocked and then settled into the three-sixteenth column, ranking third, 1/2 way behind the winner , Lucky point who would also contest Kennedy Street.

“It was just a tough ride, but it was a race, and it happened,” said Mattine. “He’s been well trained since the race. He enjoys training. He’s a happy horse and he’s looking to run. He’s eager to race again. He’s a horse. very honest and he gave his all. He gives you an honest effort every time you bring him in.”

Secret Reserve wasted no time in breaking his maidenhood, scoring a 2-and-a-half long Tapeta race victory on his debut in 2020.

After his fifth elimination, he then went on to hit three straight wins, including back-to-back bets at Elgin and Lake Superior.

Bay successfully recorded its first classified stake in this year’s edition of Bold Venture Stakes (G3) in August.

“It was a really nice effort,” said Mattine of 10-1 in the six-and-a-half long main track race. “Everything went according to plan. It was a perfect ride, and he was very impressed with how he was able to win. The whole thing was important to get in a good position for this race. There’s going to be some tough horses in there, so hopefully he can have a nice ride back and we’ll see what happens. everytime.”

After Kennedy Road, the Secret Reserve will reach a ranch in Orangeville, less than an hour’s drive northwest of Woodbine.

“He’s just a very cute stallion. He’s just a normal racehorse. But when it’s time to show off, he knows what’s going on. He becomes aggressive and aggressive. He’s just a happy horse. He eats his mints and carrots, and he likes honey-dipped donuts. He definitely likes them.”

Pink Lloyd won three runs (2017, 2019 and 2021) of Kennedy Road. Stacked Deck (2015, 2016) and Blitzer (1994, 1995) have both won the race twice. Mr. Hot Shot won the first edition in 1989.
