Gervonta Davis compares himself to Canelo Alvarez: “I feel as if we have a similar fighting style”

Gervonta Davis has always had deep respect and admiration for Canelo Alvarez. On many occasions, the multiple-time belt holder admitted to stopping whatever he was doing to turn on the television and watch Alvarez in the ring. On November 6, earlier this month at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, was no different.
That night, Alvarez placed his 168-pound WBA, WBC and WBO titles ahead of IBF title-winning tennis player Caleb Plant. Although Plant made things a lot harder for Alvarez than many expected, Alvarez eventually found his rhythm again.
The Mexican star defeated Plant in the latter part of the competition before ending the show in round 11. With the win, Alvarez would become the tournament’s first undisputed champion of all time.
As the pound-for-pound star sat on trainer Eddy Reynoso’s shoulder to celebrate his victory, Davis proceeded to compete with the new undisputed champion.
“Canelo is me at 168,” Davis said on his social media account after Alvarez’s win.
As Davis continues to analyze both Alvarez’s skill and strength, the tough Baltimore-born is doubling down on what he previously claimed.
Davis said in an interview with Brian Custer on The Last Stand Podcast: “The things I see him do in a fight, those are the things I do too. “I feel as if we have the same fighting style. Once he feels as though he’s hurt you, he’ll get you out of there. What do you see with me? If I feel like I’ve hurt you, I’ll get you out of there. “
Davis, 27, is just a few weeks away from proving that his comparisons with Alvarez aren’t unusual. On December 5, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles California, Davis will look to speed up Isaac Cruz’s work. If he does so successfully, Davis could get his 25th win in just 26 games.
