“I want to say sorry to you guys for keeping you all waiting,” Gervonta Davis told members of the media after Thursday’s press conference with April 22 opponent Ryan Garcia. “That was unprofessional to me.” While Davis’s arrival nearly two hours late is certainly annoying, it’s rare to hear the likes of Conor McGregor or Floyd Mayweather apologizing for their tardiness. In fact, 28-year-old knock-out artist Davis is generally soft-spoken and well-mannered. “I don’t think it’s personal,” he said of the upcoming super friendly against Garcia. “It’s business.”

Davis even has some commendable things to say about his future foe. He’s a legit fighter, he said of Garcia. “You can’t take it away from him.” Tank is also a legit fighter, probably one of the most legit gladiators in the game, which is why he will be favored over Garcia when he comes in. “For others, he might be quick,” Davis said of Garcia’s pace, “but for me he’ll probably be fine… I don’t know until I actually get into it.” One remarkable thing about both Davis and Garcia is that they are extremely confident in their abilities. For Davis, however, his style is much more than eye-catching.

“They just saw me knocking people down,” Davis said of the fans, “but it is.” During the interview – recorded by battle center – Davis laments how he doesn’t get credit for the work he does in the ring. “They always find something crazy to say,” Davis said when asked how people would react if he took out Garcia. “There is no victory.” However, Davis also added that such things are to be expected. “The point is,” he said, “it’s part of the sport.”
