What the BBC is to the UK, is what the public broadcaster WDR and ARD are to Germany in terms of television and radio.
Just a few weeks ago, .’s Instagram page WDR kugelzwei present some advice heat and energy savings for residents to consider: shower only once a week.
After all: “About 100 years ago, people still bathed only once a week,” writes kugelzwei. “Today, people almost look at you strangely if you tell them you don’t shower a few times a week.”
The “benefits” of showering only once a week
Supposedly, in fact, there are many benefits from bathing less often, according to ZDF’s kugelzwei. For example, people can learn to become “a little more tolerant of body odor,” and a good shower will save time in the bathroom every morning.
Use the sink, not the bath
Furthermore, gyms can replace showers with simple sinks. After a sweaty workout, one can cool off in a small room with a simple sink and washcloth instead of using a shower stall.
Turn your weekly shower into a public social event
Another idea suggested by WDR’s kugelzwei public bathing: “Maybe a shower or bath could become a featured weekly activity,” they suggest. “We will be celebrating this in public baths – perhaps with the company of others as well.”
WDR also cites research from the UK on the impact of door locking on showering. “In a YouGov survey, 17% of Britons said they shower less since lockdown. Among young people aged 18 to 24, up to 27% sometimes skip showering.”
