Genesis GV80 fastback and possibly GV90 leaked in design video

Had long-running rumor that Genesis is developing a full-size fastback luxury SUV based on the GV80. A bit sportier and perhaps more expensive, that would be Genesis’ answer to cars like BMW X6, Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupé and Audi Q8. However, we haven’t seen any trailers showing that these rumor is the truth. Well, until a not so prominent design video was released last week, perhaps inadvertently revealing its existence.

The video focuses on the Genesis design team, specifically the setting of Creative Director Luc Donckerwolke. Design Operations Director Hans Lapine and Senior Exterior Designer Samir Sadikhov also appeared, but it was the price after Sadikhov that was of most interest. As Motor1 found that, the display reveals the GV80 fastback (we staunchly refuse to call it a coupe unless it’s part of the name) in the rightmost column of the third row from the top.

The design model looks similar to the GV80, sitting behind it on the same row, but with a significant difference in the A-pillar back. The rear profile drops earlier at the roofline, creating a cargo-cutting angle that luxury SUV customers seem to love so much. There also appears to be a small spoiler both on the rear edge of the roof and below the rearview mirror.

While that looks like the most production-ready product, another never-before-seen SUV appears in the bottom left corner of the shelf. Bigger and more powerful than existing models, it could be the top GV90 in the range. Genesis has registered trademark with both standard and electric variants, and rumors say it could be a Genesis-branded variant of the Hyundai Ioniq 7.

A car that certainly isn’t revealed by accident is a stunning shot brake version of no less spectacular Genesis Concept X. While it only appears as a design model, we really hope Genesis builds it – even if it’s just a concept or a car that never makes it to US shores. Such beauty deserves to exist in the world.

Throughout the video, you’ll see different versions of the non-Genesis cars, from You come Lamborghini. This is because Luc Donckerwolke did lead design at those brands before moving to Genesis.

If the GV80 and GV90 fastbacks are not leaked by accident, then at least they are very smart. Sadly, the video doesn’t depict much of the actual decisions behind the Genesis’ design. Donckerwolke has talk to us deeply on the subject if you want to know more. What we want to see most, however, is the Concept X shooting brake.
