After countless years chasing his world championship dream, Gabriel Rosado believes he’s closer than ever to checking it off his boxing bucket list.
At the end of 2020, Rosado remained steadfast in her belief that she had been handed a rough contract. Just days after enjoying the Thanksgiving break, Rosado tried to take down his love rival with Daniel Jacobs. Though he was forced to settle for a decisive loss, the Philadelphia native viewed the defeat as a win due to the controversial nature of the scorecards.
In a bid to continue climbing the championship ladder, Rosado scored a knockout match against previous year’s contender Bektemir Melikuziev highly rated June 19, 2021. On his next trip. In the ring, Rosado waged a 12th round fight with Jaime Munguia. Though he appeared unfortunately short, to lose a widely agreed decision, Rosado is currently targeting one of the middleweight’s longest-reigning champions.
“Eddie Hearn, let’s duel!” Rosado said on her social media account. “Demetrius Andrade Has The Belt, And I Have The Fans!!!”
For Andrade, the recent call from Rosado follows an unexpected trend. The current 160-pound WBO belt holder has long hoped for more top-flight fights against the likes of WBC champion Jermall Charlo, IBF belt holder Gennadiy Golovkin or the undisputed super-middleweight champion newly crowned Canelo Alvarez.
Despite begging and begging some of the bigger names in or around his weight class to get him in, Andrade was forced to face a lower ranked opponent on the totem pole. In his most recent act, Andrade quickly knocked out competitor Jason Quigley, stopping him for two innings.
Although the 31-year-old has prided himself on defending his middleweight title against all those who come, promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed that Andrade could choose to gain weight. The reason behind Andrade’s abrupt decision stems from the WBO sanctioning body requesting a confrontation between Andrade and Janibek Alimkhanuly.
While Hearn respects the undefeated Alimkhanuly and the overall skills he brings, the longtime promoter admits he wants to meet Andrade in a more important contest in 2022.
