FTHA Names Scholarship Program for Stirling


The Florida Thoroughbred Settlers Association will name its Fellowship Program in honor of Kent Stirling, who served as executive director for 20 years of the Florida Settlers’ Protection and Benevolence Association.

FTHA President, Joe Orseno, said: “This is a fitting tribute to someone who dedicated his life to our industry and to our people. “Kent has worked diligently on behalf of owners and trainers, but the hard-working workers who have benefited most from the Scholarship Program have held a special place in the heart of the community. his heart.”

Scholarships have awarded more than $110,000 since 2017 to faculty and support workers at Gulfstream Park those who are licensed and live year-round in Florida, and their immediate dependents. Grants can be used at any accredited college, university, community college, or trade school.

Stirling, who passed away in 2017, trained for 20 years before becoming an advocate for equestrians and backers.

“The honor of having a Scholarship Program named after him will move Kent,” said his wife, Sheri Holmes Stirling, vice president of management at Gulfstream Park. “He worked tirelessly for the betterment of the workers behind, but also for the betterment of all those around him.
