Ryan Garcia returns July 16 against world champion

Ryan Garcia (22-0, 18 KOs) could have a match against Gervonta Davis but he will have to get past Javier Fortuna first.

ESPN’s boxing writer Mike Coppinger reported the news earlier with the lightweight bout taking place on July 16 at Crypto.com Arena (formerly known as the Staples Center) in Los Angeles.

Garcia was waiting in person at the Barclays Center on Saturday night to watch Gervonta Davis beat Rolando Romero. After losing a $20,000 bet in a fight with Errol Spence Jr, ‘KingRy’ took to Twitter and wrote:

“Let me deal with it on July 16th. I’ll take the Tank. He yelled the whole fight. I’m next so let it be. December take it. ”

July 16 looks like it features Garcia against Isaac Cruz in the final knockout of the WBC lightweight belt but the battle was lost. Javier Fortuna (37-3-1, 26 KOs) appears to have answered the call, and the regulator’s number nine candidate will be tasked with any derailment of Garcia.
big plan of ‘Tank’ later this year.

In February, the 33-year-old Dominican returned home defeating Rafael Hernandez in the first round. Prior to that, 11 months ago, Fortuna lost the temporarily vacant WBC 135lbs belt challenge to Joseph Diaz.

Ironically, Garcia and Fortuna were due to meet in April 2021, but the former pulled out citing mental health issues. Diaz entered the day of the rearrangement and won the decisive match between the two former featherweight superweight world champions.

Garcia returns to the ring in April after 15 months out and eased the 12-round extension decision against Emmanuel Tagoe.
