Francis Warren updates on possible rematch with Joyce-Dubois, State of Fury
Joe Joyce and Daniel Dubois may be on different career paths right now, but there’s still interest in seeing the two rematch in the future.
In November 2020 inside the unique setting of the Cathedral, Westminster, two Queensbury heavyweights fought organized a fascinating competition for British, Commonwealth and European titles.
Joyce defeated Dubois in the tenth round after the young opponent was unable to continue due to a broken eye socket.
Dubois currently holds the WBA ‘Regular’ title after coming back from a lone loss to date. Joyce, WBO’s number one contender, is finishing with her first world championship shot and recently acted against Christian Hammer.
Their promoter Frank Warren hopes for a rematch in the futuremaybe even outdoors at a stadium.
His son, and boxing manager, Francis tells Boxing Social’s Ayman Khan that the fight could get bigger and bigger the more it is left alone.
“I think like most of this domestic competition if you let it hydrate a little, especially with the history then, yeah [it can happen]. “
“The risk that you run is that both of you have to keep winning. As long as both people keep winning, it’s always an option for both of them. I think the longer it lasts the bigger it gets and more titles at stake. I think it will be a great rematch. “
One fighter Joyce would love to challenge herself to is current WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.
Since his last win over Dillian Whyte in April, the ‘King of Gypsy’ has retired and then hinted that he would turn it down if he received a worthy offer for something.
Frank Warren co-promotes Fury alongside Top Rank and Francis says there’s no expectation the 31-year-old returns to boxing.
“I’ve said it a few times and I’ll never exaggerate when it comes to Tyson, nothing to expect. There is a hope. “
“I admire the man and so do all the others. He is nothing but an inspiration and an absolute one-of-a-kind. I would love to see him again but whatever Tyson does is up to him. Fingers crossed him again fighting. Otherwise just enjoy everything else he does.”
