Formula One 2023 Season Preview: Everything you should know


The 2023 Formula One season is upon us, so with the first race weekend in Bahrain moving so fast, we need a preview. New drivers and old drivers changing teams means there are a lot of changes to the grid this season, and while overview The rankings of the teams are unlikely to change significantly, pre-season testing has revealed some possible storylines for what’s to come.

With that said, let’s dive into every hot topic you should know for the 2023 season.

Red Bull is still at the top… until now

Red Bull And Max Verstappen leave with both driving championship and last season’s Constructors’ Championship – with the help of Sergio Perez – so it’s no surprise that Red Bull remains a title contender this season. 2022 F1 saw season brand new car with fresh design caused a great commotion in the running order, pushing Mercedes down and push Ferrari and Red Bull to the top.

Pre-season testing revealed much for 2023, but it can be safely said that Red Bull is still the underdog heading into the first race of the weekend. However, how Red Bull’s performance evolves as the season progresses remains to be seen. As the champion last season, Red Bull naturally has less time to develop this season. Plus, the 2021 cost cap violation penalty will give Red Bull more time to test the wind tunnel. Ferrari is closely following Red Bull, so there could be a battle for the lead throughout the season.

Can Aston Martin have a breakout season?

The biggest surprise of pre-season testing was by Aston Martin tempo. Fernando Alonso joins Aston this year, leaving behind Alpine and Otmar Szafnauer for what he believes have a better chance of staying near the top of the table. At the end of the test, Alonso’s speed in the race test made Aston’s achievement very enjoyable. The real question will be where exactly will Aston find itself in a race weekend. Mercedes is still expected to be at least the third-best team on the grid, but if Aston Martin found something special with its 2023 car, there could be more problems for Mercedes than initially thought.

Despite all the good news for Aston recently, Lance Stroll is still in doubt after the bike ride accident.

Mercedes and McLaren got off to a rough start

The two most disappointing teams in pre-season testing were Mercedes and McLaren. Mercedes’ driver team remains the same for 2023 with Lewis Hamilton and George Russel, but technical problems limited the amount of testing Mercedes could perform, and the car still lacked performance compared to top rivals like Red Bull and Ferrari.

McLaren also had reliability issues, making it run the shortest distances of anyone in Bahrain. Lando Norris and oscar piastrian (his F1 debut) will have a job cut when the race begins, as fewer confirmation miles with worrisome performance could make it difficult for McLaren to start the new year.

What about Americans?

Well, once again, an American driver has made it to Formula 1. sergeant logan will become the first US driver in about eight years to earn a spot on the grid. Alexander Rossi was the last American to race in F1, and before him it was Scott speed who was eliminated in the 2007 season. Needless to say, American drivers have not been successful in F1 until this century. Sargeant will race for Williams this year and although he won’t be competing for the win, Williams didn’t look half bad in pre-season testing. In his first season on the track, Sargeant will have more home races than any other driver, when F1 arrives in Miami, Austin and Las Vegas in 2023.

Las Vegas seems to be a sight

It will also be the only race on the calendar to be held on a Saturday instead of a Sunday, breaking with tradition. With 23 races on this year’s schedule, the 2023 F1 season promises to be the longest F1 season ever. It is scheduled to end on November 26 in Abu Dhabi grand openingwhere we can hope to witness a thrilling match-like championship match the end of the 2021 F1 season.
