SAN FRANCISCO – Ford A spokesman told Reuters on Friday there were plans to suspend or cut output at eight of its plants in the United States, Mexico and Canada throughout the next week because of chip supply constraints.
The changes come a day after the Detroit automaker warned lack of chips will lead to a decrease in vehicle volume in the current quarter.
Production at plants in Michigan, Chicago and in Cuautitlan, Mexico will be suspended. In Kansas City, the production F-150 Pickup truck will not load while a shift will run to its Transit truck production.
The Detroit automaker will also run a single shift or a reduced schedule at its plants in Dearborn, Kentucky and Louisville, while eliminating overtime at its Oakville plant in Canada.
All changes will apply for the week starting February 7.
Ford shares tumbled on Friday, after the automaker posted lower-than-expected quarterly earnings and forecast a slower recovery in 2022 vehicle output than its rival. Synthetic engine
However, the company said it expected vehicle volume to improve significantly in the second half of the year.
