Ford F-150 Lightning resumes production after fire investigation

Ford confirmed production Ford F-150 Lightning electric truck will resume today, after stopping production of the on-demand vehicle after a vehicle caught fire at the company’s production facility on February 4.

At that time, Ford came up with a stop immediately production while beginning to investigate the root cause of the battery fire.

The company’s battery supplier, Korean brand SK, says it’s a rarely happens and not a design flaw, which Ford today confirms in its own statement.

“On February 4, during a standard quality check, a vehicle had a battery problem and caught fire. The root cause identified was related to battery production at the SK On plant in Georgia,” the brand said in a statement.

“Ford has not received any reports of accidents or injuries related to this recall. Together with SK On, we identified the root cause and took quality assurance actions. Production is on track to resume on Monday with a clean reserve of batteries.”

As part of the remediation process, another 18 Ford F-150 Lightnings built with batches of batteries identified as potentially problematic and delivered to customers were recalled to replace battery packs.

“Ford is recalling 18 F-150 Lightnings due to a battery manufacturing defect that occurred over a four-week period from the end of last year. We recently determined that 18 vehicles containing cells over that four-week period reached dealers and customers.”

The fire incident doesn’t seem to be stifling customers’ appetites, with current wait times leading to huge order lists. Limited supply and high demand problem returns car launched in 2021.

Ford was forced to close its order books in December 2021, before production started, and in 2022 it announced plans to double production in an attempt to get cars into the hands of customers. earlier.

Ford USA’s website now says the 2023 model is no longer available to order.

Blue Oval has now invested over US$1 billion (AU$1.44 billion) in Michigan for the F-150 Lightning alone, with 1700 jobs created across five plants.

It’s unclear if the F-150 Lightning is coming, but Ford Australia has previously indicated it will bring at least five electrified vehicles by 2024. It also brings Gasoline-powered F-150 will hit the market in 2023.

Given the great demand in North America for the F-150 Lightning, don’t expect it to get here anytime soon.
