Fly Racing Odyssey Adventure Modular Helmet | Review
Anyone following Rider know that we are huge fans of the flip-up convenience of modular helmets. We’re also fans of the ADV helmet, which combines the sunshade top and pointed chin of a motorcycle helmet with the visor and other features of a street helmet. The Flying car racing The Odyssey Adventure Modular Helmet offers the best of both worlds, with anti-roll bars and 2-in-1 design with ADV (peak visor) and street (non-peak) modes.

The Odyssey has a smooth polycarbonate outer shell sculpted in a wind tunnel. Inside the housing and reinforcing the chin bar is dual-density EPS for shock absorption, and there are recessed speaker pockets for mounting the docking system. Between the EPS and the rider’s noggin is a removable, washable, moisture-wicking Quick-Dry comfort pad that’s perforated to aid ventilation. There is also a removable chin veil and a dual D-ring chin strap.

The inside has a hard outer coating for scratch resistance and an inner anti-fog coating. A color drop-in sunshade blocks 100% of harmful UVA/B radiation. Fly Racing’s True Functional Ventilation combines air intakes in the crossbar and top of the helmet with a negative pressure rear spoiler with integrated exhaust vents.
Flexibility is the name of the game with this helmet. It is comfortable, reasonably quiet and well-ventilated, works well on hot days, cold days, sidewalks less dusty. The chin bar, sunshade, vents and visor are easy to operate with gloved hands and the visor features large openings for three opening positions.
However, there are two downsides. The first is weight. My midsize Odyssey with ADV top installed weighed 4 lb, 5 oz, making it one of the heaviest modular helmets we tested. The second is sensitive to dry, dusty conditions. After riding on someone’s dust cloud for a while, releasing the chin bar became difficult. This is an issue that affects moving parts like zippers and hinges on all types of riding gear, not just the Odyssey. A quick rinse at the end of the day will put everything in order.
The Odyssey Adventure Modular Helmet is a good value at $279.95 for solid colors (gray, white, and black) or $289.95 for the Summit graphics (black/gray/white, blue). seawater / gray / white and brown / black / gray). It is available in sizes XS-2XL and comes with a soft fleece helmet pocket, a color-matched peak visor (for ADV mode) and matching visors with color (for street mode). Mirrored and Pinlock-ready face shields are also available.
