“After testing negative for COVID-19 on Monday during her routine testing, the First Lady began developing cold-like symptoms late in the evening,” the statement said.
The First Lady, who received two vaccinations and two boosters, was prescribed a course of treatment Paxlovid. Following CDC guidance, Biden will stay at his home in Kiawah Island, South Carolina, and isolate from others for at least five days.
The statement said she plans to return home after receiving two negative COVID tests in a row.
The White House said President Biden, who was on vacation with his wife and family, is considered a close contact and will cover his face while indoors for the next 10 days.
Following CDC guidance as he is a close relative of the First Lady, he will wear a mask for 10 days while indoors and around other people. We will also speed up the President’s testing and reporting on those results.
