First hands-on look at the new DJI Avata 2 FPV drone

DJI, maker of the world’s best consumer and professional photography drones, recently announced a new brand Avata 2 FPV drone. They were able to send me one to try out and in this video I ask the question: “Is the Avada 2 worth upgrading from the original Avata drone?”

When it comes to narrowing down the perfect drone for your photography and video needs, choosing the right model can be difficult. Just a few years ago, DJI only had about four different product lines, but today, they make more than a dozen different types of drones that serve a wide range of users.

The Avata series was first released in 2022 and was marketed as DJI’s best entry-level FPV drone for beginners. However, it is not only useful for beginner drone pilots as it has enough professional features to make it attractive even to FPV drone enthusiasts with experience. What exactly is an FPV drone? I had the same question in 2022, and the original Avata was my first experience with the “first-person” drone sub-category. Unlike heavier, more traditional cinematic drones, FPV drones are designed to be smaller, more agile, and capable of wilder acrobatic maneuvers. This doesn’t mean they can’t be used in a more traditional way, but their main appeal is flying through tight spaces, flying safely indoors and performing all sorts of acrobatics and spins. , wild drifting and other “racing” styles. movement.

To be completely transparent, up to this point in my career I had never taken drone photography and videography seriously. It’s not because I don’t see the potential of a flying camera, but rather I’ve never taken the time to master a drone model. I occasionally do a flight here and there, but I would never say that I feel qualified to fly a drone professionally or even semi-professionally. So when Avatar 2 has been published in large numbers Safety glasses 3 upgraded, I thought this would be the perfect time to sit down and learn how to fly one of these.

So, in the near future, I plan to release a few more videos showing my progress and giving my opinion on this new FPV drone from DJI. In the meantime, I made the video above to introduce some updated features of Avata 2 compared to the original Avata 1. There are a ton of other features packed into this new drone that I haven’t mentioned, but for me, these are some of the most interesting, standout upgrades I noticed right off the bat.

Why do people buy older Drones?

As you can see from the specs above, the Avata 2 drone is a great upgrade over the original Avata drone, but in my opinion, the new Goggles 3 is probably the upgrade. the largest level for the entire system. What makes the Avata 2 drone even more worth buying is that at a time older Avata drones are not being discounted as much as I thought they would be. Actually, with The Avatar 1 still retails at $629 and The new Avata 2 is sold for $489, I don’t see any reason to buy an older drone unless you buy one on the used market (and no one likes buying used drones)! Combo sets are even more distorted with Combo Avata 2 Fly More, with a cheaper battery than the old Avata Kit. Perhaps retailers haven’t discounted the older Avata 1 yet because the Avata 2 isn’t in much stock right now, but that really just makes Pre-order Avatar 2 That’s more of a deal at the moment.

Stay tuned as I will be releasing a second video soon where I explore more features of the Avata such as pairing, the ability to use the RC remote compared to the Controller 3, and the overall experience of I went from never flying a drone to mastering Avatar 2.
