Firefighters spend hours saving German shepherd dog that fell into a 60-foot well

Most of us make the “Timmy falls down” story a good joke, never believing it will ever happen. Actually happen to us. But that’s exactly what happened to 9-year-old Indy’s dad. He watched his sweet Shepard disappear into a deep hole that was once a well right before his eyes.

And it took firefighters more than four hours to get him out safely.

Indy, a retired 9-year-old K9, was playing with her furry brother on a California estate when he suddenly fell into a pit right in front of their father. Indy, German Shepherd, was a member of the Arizona police force and was adopted by a retired soldier.

Multiple fire crews, along with police, responded to the tense scene.

Rescue teams tried various maneuvers, including dropping a number of different specialized hooks and lowering the noose, but they seriously struggle to rescue him. Nothing worked, and poor Indy had to wait longer and longer.

“But because the hole was so big, nothing was long enough to get through. You cannot put any employee in that situation. You can’t put anyone down there. The ground is too unstable; there’s no way to deal with it,” said Ken Gilden of the San Diego Humane Society’s Emergency Response Team.

Even Indy’s father, who is retired from the army, begged to be lowered into the pit. But rescue teams claim that OSHA regulations won’t allow him, or even a firefighter, to be put in an extremely dangerous situation.

Rescue teams are worried that the hole could collapse due to recent rains that have affected their area. Plus, the hole that was once a well doesn’t go straight down and complicates rescue efforts.

But in the end, after four hours, Indy was saved from this terrifying situation.

“And nothing happened, and then at the last minute the dog raised its head, and the fireman with the noose was able to put it around its neck. And as soon as he did, they pulled it tight, and we brought him up right away,” Ken said.

Indy was still alive and conscious when he was rescued, but he has suffered a number of injuries, including several cuts and bruises that will require multiple vet visits to get proper treatment. Luckily, his loving father will be there to pamper him as he heals.

When interviewed, the owner of the house where Indy and his siblings played said he was unaware of this deep and dangerous hole. After all, it To be covered with weeds and overgrown vines.
