Square Enix gave us drips Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters over the past year, with the first five being launched. And now we know the remastered version of Final Fantasy VI, aka the final dribble, arrives in February 2022.
In one Posts on Steam, Squeenix says it’s taking its time to get the ultimate Pixel Remasters right:
“To give you the best experience possible, we’re giving ourselves the necessary time to apply the final polish as we perfect the game’s development.”
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Final Fantasy VI caught the eye of Katharine and Brendy Best Final Fantasy game on PC power rankings, albeit in eighth place. Katharine said it’s “often considered the ‘best Final Fantasy’ of the so-called classic era” but its portable PC port is a dump. One that Brendy didn’t hold back, calling it “worse than the bottom of a pug”. So it’s understandable that Squeenix doesn’t want to mess with this remaster.
Squeenix has also announced some additional pre-order freebies. Specifically, some “Timelapse” remix versions of themes from the soundtrack. These tunes start with the original soundtrack, then move on to a remix. Several pixelated remakes from FF1-6 are also included.
Now the only ‘old’ Final Fantasy I’ve played is FF7 on Switch, so FF1-6 is a bit of a mystery to me. But judging by the trailer for the FF6 mobile PC port, it has a castle, mechs, and snow. Looks like your boys *check notes* Locke, must break *check notes* a young girl named Terra from the clutches of the Empire. Breaking the princesses out of the castle always gets my approval. I just hope they choose the right font.
According to Squeenix, you’ll need to “wait a while” before we can pre-purchase the individual FF6 Pixel Remaster on Steam. For now, your only option is to pre-purchase it as part of the FF1-6 Pixel Remaster Pack.
