FIH Pro League: Indian Women beat USA 4-2


The Indian women’s hockey team brilliantly beat the United States 4-2 in the first game of the FIH Pro League in Rotterdam on Tuesday. Danielle Grega gave the United States the lead in the 28th minute through an on-field effort before the Indians forced their way back into the game by scoring through Deep Grace Ekka (31), Navneet Kaur (32) and Sonika (40) to raise the score to 3-1 commander. The Americans shortened the score in the 45th minute through the conversion of Natalie Konerth’s corner before Vandana Katariya sealed the game in India’s favor with an on-field goal in the 50th minute.

India got off to a positive start but the US got its first chance from a corner in the 10th minute but squandered it.

Soon after, India had the first shot on goal but Gurjit Kaur’s corner went wide.

In the 22nd minute, the United States enjoyed a corner from the opponent, but both were wasted. Vandana’s twin effort in the 27th minute was pretty well defended by the United States but in the process, India was awarded a corner but it was void.

A minute later, USA broke the deadlock thanks to Grega, who led the ball into goal from Erin Matson’s cross from midfield, past India’s Bichu Devi Kharibam.

Just 45 seconds into the third half, India equalized with Deep Grace’s corner switch before Navneet stunned the Americans with a brilliant goal from Vandana’s cross after. an assist from the right.

The Indians had chances from the corners but they squandered them.

In the 39th minute, Bichu Devi made an excellent save to deny the Americans.

A minute later, Sonika extended India’s lead with an on-field goal, due to an opening in the American defense.

The United States did not give up and dropped the score only in the stroke of the third inning through a corner conversion by Konerth.

Five minutes into the fourth and final half, India reclaimed their two-goal lead when Vandana scored with a treacherous shot from the right.

After that, both teams tried to score, especially the United States but they were unable to break through India’s determined defence.

India and the US will once again face each other in the second match of the match on Wednesday.

Argentina were crowned champions, finishing with 42 points from 16 games, while India, making their league debut, placed third with 27 points from 13 games.
