Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson Listed In The Field For The 2022 PGA Championship In Southern Hills

The second major championship of the year is near and with it is the official field list for the event featuring two of the biggest names in the sport. Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are actually on the official PGA of America roster so both could be in the Southern Hills next week for the 2022 PGA Championship.

Woods’ involvement in the PGA Championship has been speculated after the 15-time major winner was spotted in the Southern Hills two weeks ago as part of a scouting tour. Overall, the walk around the property was a success as he was accompanied by the course’s director of golf, Cary Cozby.

Cozby said: “Things went very well for him. Golf Oklahoma’s Ken MacLeod. “I know people can surpass him now, but watching him work is amazing. He is meticulous, detailed and immersed in what he is doing. He is very curious about the road. best sharpness and angles.”

Woods, a four-time PGA champion, raised the Wanamaker Trophy at the Southern Hills in 2007. The 46-year-old was last seen in competition at the Masters 2022 over a month ago, where he performed. impressively but ultimately finished 47th with his worst two rounds at Augusta National this past weekend.

Not in Augusta was Mickelson, who chose to give up masters for the first time in 28 years after public outcry over his comments regarding the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Tournament. Having been absent since the Saudi Arabia international in February, the 51-year-old stepping onto the pitch in the Southern Hills may be more shocking than Woods.

Despite avoiding the limelight, Mickelson recently hosted conversations with PGA America CEO Seth Waugh.

“He’s trying to find the right moment for him to be [to reappear]” Waugh said Gary Williams on the podcast “Conversation of the 5 Clubs” on the status of the six-time big winner. “I think the game is also trying to find the right moment for him. How long is enough? And is he ready? I think it will be a late decision and I think we will continue the game. story.”

Mickelson famously became the biggest winner when he won the PGA Championship last year at the age of 50. It is unknown if he will defend his crown at the Southern Hills after his agent, Steve Loy, released a statement regarding his upcoming fixture on April 25.

Loy confirmed that Mickelson had registered for the US Open and PGA Championship as well as the first LIV Golf Invitational in London from June 9-11.

“Phil doesn’t currently have a specific plan on when and where he will play,” Loy said. “Any action taken is not a reflection of the final decision taken but rather to keep all options open.”

Given Mickelson’s name in the field for the PGA Championship, those vague plans may have been solidified. Many could change within a week, but as of now, it looks like both Woods and Mickelson are expected to be in the Southern Hills.
