Fiat thinks big with new pickup for the global market

fiat are thinking small in the United States, it will soon stop 500X and bring the tiny 500e EV to our shores, but its global scope will continue to include larger samples. One of its city-unfriendly vehicles is the medium-sized body-on-frame truck announced for Brazil.

Official details about the pickup are scant, we don’t even know what it will be called, but a preview image released by the company’s Italian division shows styling cues. familiar. The grille, the shape of the headlights and the bend in the waistline remind us of peugeot Landtrek, a body-on-frame truck jointly designed with Chinese automaker Chang’an and sold in several global markets as of 2019.

Fiat hasn’t confirmed whether its upcoming truck will be Peugeot-based, but borrowing Landtrek’s platform would make sense: both companies live under the Stellantis umbrella. And, the Landtrek is largely sold in countries where Peugeot has historically had strengths, such as some African countries, but it’s not available in Brazil, where Fiat dominates the burgeoning pickup truck segment with amazing speed. The company claims that their Strada, a small car model derived from Ford Maverick looks a bit big, is the best-selling pickup truck in Brazil.

Additional details about Fiat’s next truck will emerge in the coming months. When it lands, it will join the aforementioned Strada and a unibody model, derived from the Jeep Renegade called the Toro in showrooms. There’s nothing to suggest the pickup will be sold in the United States, and it may not be spinning in Fiat’s home country, where the company hasn’t sold a truck since. full-back derived from Mitsubishi L200 Retired in 2019.
