The Seattle-based carrier today launched a 10% bonus offer on holiday gift cards that can be used to spend on cruises — an offer with essentially no limits.
For every Holland America gift card you purchase during the promotion period, which will continue through December 13, you will receive a second gift card equal to 10% of the original purchase amount (which is free money we’re talking about). Especially:
- Buy a $250 gift card and get a free $25 gift card.
- Buy a $500 gift card and get a free $50 gift card.
- Buy a $1,000 gift card and get a free $100 gift card.
Both the original gift card and the bonus gift card can be used to pay for any cruise that is currently open for booking in 2022, 2023 or 2024, as well as a long list of additional services. onboard supplements such as spa treatments, specialty restaurant dinners, and beverage packages — as long as the extras are purchased before setting sail.
You can also use gift cards to pay for shore excursions purchased prior to the trip.

The only major limitations to the promotion are that the 10% bonus cards are only available to US residents, and they are only available with the purchase of a holiday gift card worth at least $250.
In particular, there is no limit to the number of gift cards purchased during the promotion period, which can be used for yourself or as a gift. So if you’re planning to take your extended family on one or more excursions over the next few years, you can buy tens of thousands of dollars worth of gift cards that will generate thousands of dollars in bonuses.
If you’re the type of person who travels five or six times a year, you can buy enough gift cards to pay for it all.

Just be warned that if you actually go to town to buy a pass, you might run into roadblocks.
Specifically, Holland America has this line in fine print for the promotion: “There is no limit to the number of gift cards a guest can purchase, [but] some purchase restrictions may apply for fraud prevention reasons.”
Also, you want to make sure you don’t buy too many gift cards because they have expiration dates.

While you can apply the gift card to any cruise that is open for booking in 2022, 2023, and 2024, you must apply the gift card to bookings made by December 31, 2023.
