Ferrari Purosangue SUV is still exclusive, coming soon with a V12 engine

Ferrari’s upcoming SUV, now called Purosanguewill be limited in supply on many powertrains including the V12.

The Italian automaker says it is unlikely to follow other premium brands in ramping up production to meet expected demand for its first crossover.

Dieter Knechtel, President of Ferrari Far East and Middle East, says CarExpert the company will diligently manage the supply and demand of its upcoming SUV.

“Now it will be another range model, and even now with our range models the supply is not endless. So we will be very careful to balance that properly,” said Mr Knechtel said.

According to Mr Knechtel, Ferrari will manage the exclusivity of its SUV in a similar way to its other models, meaning special editions or other special variants will be very limited and existing customers will be given priority.

That said, the company believes Purosangue will bring in many new buyers.

“That was really one of the original purposes of investing in that segment. We saw an opportunity to expand our customer base with people who hadn’t come to the brand yet but loved SUVs, but since we didn’t have… we now had the opportunity to bring them to the brand. . ”

Mr. Knechtel believes the SUV will bring in a younger customer base for the brand, along with lots of first-time buyers. For now, cars like the Roma (70%) and Portofino (60%) attract a lot of first-time Ferrari buyers, but the Purosangue is expected to go even further.

What about first-time buyers? “We expect similar trends to happen with SUVs,” said Knechtel.

“That’s fine, that’s what we want – but can’t expect that we’ll have an endless supply, that’s not what we can do.”

CarExpert understand The Purosangue SUV will be offered with a naturally aspirated V12 engine as well as other powertrain options, and the Maranello-based manufacturer will make an announcement about its lineup in mid-June.

As for the future of V12s in general? Grandfather Knechtel said Ferrari will decide if it wants to continue, and said the brand is likely to meet the emissions requirements for V12s when it starts to electrify its range.

“As a company we are very proud of our tradition so the V12 is very important. Whether there is room for it in the future is up to us to decide. We can manage that, carbon neutrality we can manage in many ways,” he said.

“V12, our customers love it, I think we’ll keep using it as long as we can and see how it goes.”
