Family adopts pet dog even if vet is ‘cautious’ that it is mentally challenged
Stanley’s character was obvious from the start, and certainly different. This is something a little unusual, however, and the quirks are a bit unsettling. Stanley’s parents adopted him but began to worry about their dog soon after. Stanley, one Golden Retriever, quite friendly, likable and physically fit; however, there seems to be more to his story.
Stanley was saved from Rescue the Golden Retriever in Mid-Florida and has been known to be a bit unusual. When they picked him up from his foster home, he was sleeping on the table.

However, they quickly fall in love with Stanley despite his suggestions and decide to take him home. Stanley got along with their kids and other pets right away.

But Stanley’s mom and dad became worried about their new dog. They have had success in the past training other dogs, but Stanley is different. They were worried he might get injured climbing onto counters and tables.

Stanley is not deaf, but he never responds to his name being called. Two coaches were hired but eventually quit because of him. And one suggested that the dog could be mentally challenged.
The family took this seriously and studied his behavior even more closely. They discovered a obsessive compulsion As a rule, Stanley would put together a slipper, remote control and stuffed animal every day.

They decided to test Stanley with a dog IQ test they heard from a friend, and he failed to get out of the blankets, respond to his name, and find treats in a cup .

The vet agreed with the assessment and said the dog’s challenges could be the result of inbreeding and stubbornness.

It may never be revealed exactly why Stanley is acting the way he does, but that’s not something his family has to worry about. He is physically healthy and surrounded by lots of love!

You have to love that Stanley is getting a fair shot at life regardless of his challenges. Every dog deserves love and happiness!
