Fallon Named Interim First Jockey for Qatar Grand Prix
Qatar Racing announced on February 24 that they will retain Oisin Murphy as part of their team after the three-time champion equestrian was banned for 14 months.
Murphy was found guilty on February 22 of five counts brought by the BHA, two of which were related to his trip to Mykonos and failure to self-isolate, with conduct affecting his reputation. sports, plus another 100 days for 2 positive alcohol tests at Chester and Newmarket.
The rider, who has accepted all fees, will not be able to ride until February and will be temporarily replaced as Qatar Racing’s first driver by Cieren Fallon, the two-time champion apprentice who was appointed as the second driver for Qatar Racing in August 2020.
Qatar Racing said: “We respect the findings of the BHA independent judiciary panel. This phase will give Oisin more time to continue his rehabilitation, which we fully support. We and the sport are looking forward to his return to the racetrack.”
“In the meantime, Oisin will stay on the Qatar Racing team and Cieren Fallon will take over and ride his first racehorse until Oisin returns.”
Murphy finished eight winners against rival William Buick when claiming his second jockey title in 2020, but 11 of his 142 winners came during a period when he should have been self-isolating. after returning from Greece.
The disqualification of his winners during that time was reviewed by the BHA before the allegation was made, and the possible contact of the horses beaten in those 11 races remains.
