Fabio Quartararo expands with Yamaha for the next two seasons
Fabio Quartararo has signed a two-year contract with Yamaha. The French rider will race on the factory’s Monster Energy Yamaha team for the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
This move has long been expected. Despite initial rumors that Quartararo was disappointed with the offer Yamaha had made, the two sides were intent on ending up together.
Quartararo is known as the fastest Yamaha M1 car, using the car equipped with the best-in-class equipment in the world.
And since the Quartararo was the only rider able to compete, Yamaha had no choice but to do what they needed to do to keep the Quartararo.
Quartararo’s innovation is also a sign of confidence in Yamaha’s ability to build him a competitive bike.
The factory brought in a new, more powerful engine for the 2022 season, but couldn’t make it reliable enough so it switched back to the previous engine generation.
Work is continuing on the engine they have rejected to make it more reliable and improve the top speed of the Yamaha M1.
The signing of Quartararo brings the number of drivers registered through 2023 to seven. Marc Marquez, Aleix Espargaro, Maverick Viñales, Brad Binder and Pecco Bagnaia all have contracts until 2024, while Franco Morbidelli has contracts until 2023. .
Whether that contract will be fulfilled, and whether Morbidelli will comply with the performance terms of his contract, is unknown.
