FABIAN Rojo is eager to extend his undefeated record to 9-0 when the powerful Phoenix left-hander takes on Daniel Gonzalez tonight. At just 22 years old, Rojo is busy checking off career boxes, including landing spots on major local shows.
“I’m very proud and very excited to be in a fight like this. I’m nervous, but nervousness is good. It’s something that I know will help me get through this fight, look great and win. Everyone will be here to support me. I feel the love, I feel the support and that makes me stronger. It’s that support that makes me feel stronger for tomorrow,” he said. Boxing News at yesterday’s weigh-in.
“We are doing very well, I am here giving my best and I am excited to fight. My preparation was good, I worked very hard. I had a great match and I knew I was ready.”
Just winning the fight against Gonzalez, a seasoned Albuquerque fighter who knows what it’s like to lose, won’t be enough. Rojo is ready to make his loss feel like a loss in the co-main event and look great doing it.
“It’s a great card and it’s important to win, but it’s also important to put on a good show when you do it. I want to make people proud and excited and I’m ready. It’s going to be a great fight. I’ve been working a lot on my footwork, my head movement and my defense. I know I’m here to put on a show,” he added.
Setting the stage for the two lighter weight fighters that evening, Rojo admired the fighters and their fighting style inspired him to do better.
“There are so many great fighters. I really like Victor Ortiz. Also, I know Lomachenko isn’t Mexican, but I really like his style. His angles, his movements. I practice them a lot.”
Speaking of angles and movements, Bam Rodriguez has mastered them artistically. Meanwhile, Estrada is a master of closing distances and quickly dialing in, round after round. The main event is unlikely to disappoint.
“It was a great match,” agreed Fabian Rojo. “Gallo has great style and I know Bam is ready to bring the heat. They’re both ready and I think it’s going to be a great match.”
