F1: Porsche and Red Bull partnership ends before it starts

Porsche and Red Bull’s partnership in Formula 1 was shut down before it even started.

This weekend, the German sports car giant confirmed it was in talks with Red Bull “about the possibility of Porsche entering Formula 1”, but said the pair “have now come to the conclusion that the This negotiation will no longer be continued.”

It is believed that Porsche is planning to join Red Bull if they can secure a 50% stake in the team, rather than acting as an engine supplier.

Red Bull Racing Team Principal, Christian Horner, says Motorsport.com the problem is due to the cultural difference between the two brands.

“There was never a financial discussion. Porsche is a great brand. But DNA is completely different. During the discussion, it became clear that there was a strategic disconnect,” Mr. Horner told Motorsport.com at Monza.

Having previously purchased engines from Renault and later Honda, Red Bull is now developing its own set of engines with support from Honda. According to Christian Horner, it’s happy to go on alone.

“We are completely focused on one Red Bull power unit,” said Mr. Horner. Automotive sport. “And if there is a like-minded partner who can contribute something to the project, then of course you will have to completely consider that. But it is not a prerequisite.”

Porsche has not ruled out taking part in Formula 1 at the track, despite the failed Red Bull deal.

“With the final rule changes, the racing series remains an attractive environment for Porsche, which will continue to be watched,” it said in a media release.

The Volkswagen Group will be in Formula 1, no matter what Porsche does. Audi has confirmed that it will be available from 2026, likely to cooperate with Sauber.
