Evander Holyfield Reveals Who He’s ‘Backing’ To Beating Tyson Fury
Evander Holyfield has voiced his opinion on what would happen if Oleksandr Usyk or Anthony Joshua ever faced Tyson Fury.
The undisputed former cruiser and heavyweight champion is on the ground in Saudi Arabia first Joshua’s Heavyweight Rematch vs Usyk.
The Briton faces undisputed former Ukraine cruiser weightlifter Usyk for the second time on Saturday, at the Jeddah Superdome, bidding to become a three-time world champion and reclaim the WBA Super world title. , IBF, IBO and WBO unified.
A win for Joshua, who was dethroned by Usyk in the pair’s first match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London last September, could set up an all-England showdown with WBC champion Fury says above.
When talking to Social boxing‘The Real Deal’, who was mocked for coming back in an exhibition last year, praised Fury:
“Tyson Fury has shown what a great fighter he is – out of all the fighters, he is the one who can adjust and the tuning will make you better.
I’m not saying they can’t beat him, but the fact is that nobody beat him because of the fact that he tuned in.
No one has beaten him. Until someone beats him, there’s no way you can tell someone will do it.
The art of the game is the art of the game, and if you’ve never been defeated, you’ve never proven that you can.”
Holyfield is currently boxing mentor to heavyweight prospect Zhang Zhilei, who will face Croatia’s Filip Hrgovic in the final elimination match for Usyk’s IBF title following his clash with ‘AJ’.
As for whether Joshua has a better chance against Fury than Usyk, the 59-year-old replied:
“Everybody has a plan until they get into it.
Everyone thought they could win until they couldn’t.
Joshua is taller than Usyk and both are strong so will slow down afterwards. I think Anthony Joshua is the perfect fighter for him [Fury] because height wise, it’s the same. Everything becomes the same when those two fight – it decides who is the strongest.
That may seem like it favors Anthony Joshua, but until it happens, it will just be a guessing game.”
