Erickson Lubin on Sebastian Fundora: “He’s a tall statue of a guy but skilled at paying the bills”

Despite his crushing defeat to Jermell Charlo in 2017, Erickson Lubin believes he possesses the best skill at 154 pounds. However, while Lubin thinks his middleweight peers should be ranked below him, by Saturday night he will be forced to raise his head.

On April 9, at the Virgin Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, Lubin will wield his ax nearby as he attempts to chop off a 6’6″ Sebastian Fundora. In addition to his oddly tall frame, Lubin admits he’s seen Fundora up close and personal on a few occasions. And, having done so, the 26-year-old directs his limits in the direction of Fundora and what he brings to the table.

“He’s a tall statue of a guy,” Lubin said at a recent press conference. “He’s a good fighter, he’s fine.”

Thanks to her superior height and punching power, Fundora overwhelmed her opponents, leading to a career unbeaten record of 19 matches. Most recently, Fundora waged a 12th round fight against Sergio Garcia in December 2021. While he continued to win, Lubin quietly did the same.

Since meeting his premature death at the hands of Charlo nearly five years ago, Lubin has dusted himself off and firmly established himself in the title of world champion, thanks to six consecutive victories. With an injury-time win over unified champion Jeison Rosario on his most recent trip to the ring, Lubin is now beaming with confidence.

However, despite the enormous self-belief of the now-sportsman Lubin, the oddsmakers have ranked his upcoming match against Fundora as 50/50. But while the betting public believes their showdown could go either way, Lubin is expecting a skewed performance.
