As Erickson Lubin looks back on his career, the 26-year-old realizes he’s completely too eager to be world champion.

In 2017, at the age of 21, Lubin brazenly challenged Jermell Charlo for his 154-pound WBC crown. Although talent was clearly on display, Lubin quickly realized that it was too early to face Charlo, thus suffering a defeat in the first round.

Since then, however, Lubin has perfected himself and worked diligently on his craft, resulting in six straight wins. Although Lubin is currently winning over several top contenders like Nathaniel Gallimore and Terrell Gausha, as well as wins over former world champions Ishe Smith and Jeison Rosario, he faces a task big, literally and figuratively, will arrive on Saturday, April 9.

On the night, in Las Vegas, Nevada, Lubin will take on the role of Sebastian Fundora. Once the match is officially over, Lubin will be forced to raise his head when facing the 6’5 middleweight candidate. But while the Fundora has an 8-inch height and a 6-inch reach advantage, Lubin doesn’t mind his physical size.

“He was a good boxer,” Lubin told BoxingScene.com. “I know he comes ready to fight. He brings the fight to you but as long as he weighs 154 pounds on that scale, that’s all that matters to me. I think skill is everything, if you don’t have skill you can’t really f*ck me. ”

Despite her enormous weight, Fundora rarely uses her eye-catching height to deter opponents. Instead, he often chooses to stand right in front of the opposition and walk away.

For the most part, Fundora’s penchant for high-octane bouts ended badly for his opponents. In three of his previous four competitions, only Sergio Garcia, his most recent competitor, reached the final bell.

Unconcerned with Fundora’s apparent punch power, Lubin shrugged as he finished an arduous training camp. With fighters like Fundora, Tim Tszyu, and Magomed Kurbanov dueling for the title of world champion, Lubin is ready to demonstrate why his name should be protruding near the top of the line. his other candidate.

“I am someone who proves that I am different from all the other candidates.”
