Tesla Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk is planning to visit China in early April and is seeking a meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang, two people familiar with the plans for the trip told Reuters.
Tesla and the China State Council Information Office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
China is Tesla’s second-biggest market after the United States, and the Shanghai factory is the electric carmaker’s largest production hub.
Musk’s visit will mark his first visit to China since the Covid-19 pandemic and since Xi Jinping secured a third term as China’s president.
